Each client receives access to a home directory where they can store the files they want to share over the Internet. Ownership of this home directory is managed via their account password and username. Every customer gets a unique, password protected userID. Inside the home directory are other directories of which the "WWW" or "HTTPDOCS" directory is the most important. The WWW or HTTPDOCS directory is where you place files all html documents, images, sounds, and files you want people to be able to access from the world wide web. If you enter http://www.yourdomainname.com/yourpage.html into your browser, our server will respond by returning the file "yourpage.html" from this directory. [ Back to Top ]
Managing Your Account
Access your account via https://www.yourdomainname.com:8443. *Please note the "https://" (s for secure) and not "http://" is required. Enter the userID and password given you by OKANAGANHOSTING.COM to log into your account from the PLESK Domain Management interface. This interface is standard on all hosting packages. [ Back to Top ]
Telnet/SSH
For security reasons TELNET and SSH connections to accounts on our servers are not permitted. [ Back to Top ]
FTP
To FTP into your account you must create an FTP account via the Plesk interface (i.e. you cannot FTP into your account using your account userID and password). We recommend CuteFTP as your FTP Client although there are many good ones available. [ Back to Top ]
Index Page
The file name of your home page can be either index.html or index.htm. [ Back to Top ]
Mail
Our servers do not use Sendmail. Rather they support the much more robust and secure Qmail. However, where CGI scripts are concerned, Qmail emulates Sendmail as much as possible. So alterations to scripts should not be required. [ Back to Top ]
CGI
Executable scripts must be uploaded to your cgi-bin in ASCII or text format. Please note - we do not provide free support for CGI or other executable scripts. The cgi-bin is tested on every new server. Almost never is a cgi-problem a problem with the server, it is always with your script.
